Survivor at Every Stadium: Atlanta Falcons

View Photos

Atlanta, GA. Georgia lung cancer survivor-advocates Jackie Archer, Samantha Mixon Thompson, Patti Watkins, Ellis Lanham and Marcus Krause represented Team Draft at the Falcons game on Sunday. The survivors attended a Lunch & Learn at STATs Atlanta, with lung cancer survivors Delene Kepler and Michael Blonder, before heading over to the Georgia Dome to watch the Atlanta Falcons take on the San Diego Chargers. The game coincided with the Atlanta Falcons Legends game so the survivors got a chance to mingle with, Team Draft co-founder and former Atlanta Falcon Chris Draft, and other Falcons Legends.

What an honor and privilege to join with fellow survivors yesterday! It was truly a blessing! Thank you to everyone who made this event such a HUGE success!

In 2012, we, Team Draft, launched our inaugural Survivor at Every Stadium initiative on CNN during a nationally-televised prime time special focusing on lung cancer and our National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer.

Leveraging our connections with the NFL, its teams and players and our relationships with many of the top cancer centers in the country, As part of our National Campaign, this celebration of survivorship raises lung cancer awareness, gives hope to those battling the disease, and shines a light on the important work being done at cancer research and treatment centers around the country.

Team Draft’s goals are to create a unique experience for participating survivors and to raise awareness on a local, national, and international level by using each game and each survivor’s story to weave a broader narrative about the state of cancer and the hope that now exists for those battling the disease.

As you are all aware, I am a Lung Cancer Survivor/Thriver and am blessed to be four years into the game that I plan on winning. I don’t ask much from folks but I do have one thing I would like for each of you to take the time to do. Visit Team Draft and see what Chris Draft, a man whom I have much respect for, is doing in the fight against lung cancer. Though my Falcons lost, those of us who are part of his community left The Dome as winners in the fight against lung cancer.

Special thanks to the Atlanta Falcons, PrimeSport, Northside Hospital, Emory Winship Cancer Institute, Wellstar Health System, Piedmont Health, STATS Atlanta, Myriad (MyPlanLung) and our Team Draft supporters for helping make this experience possible.
