A Survivor At Every Stadium: Carolina Panthers

Charlotte, NC. Greenville, South Carolina native and lung cancer survivor-advocate Dan Powell will represent Team Draft at Bank of America stadium in Charlotte, North Carolina. Dan will watch the Panthers take on their NFC South rival, Atlanta Falcons.

Dan Powell:

On top of the world at 35, Powell married the girl of his dreams, became a father and bought the white Colonial with refinished hardwoods on a quiet street near the base of Paris Mountain.
He loved his job — or really, jobs — as Greenville County air-quality director and city planner for Fountain Inn. He wrote grants that brought in millions of dollars to revitalize Fountain Inn, build safe trails and start clean-air programs.
Words scripted on another living room wall — “With God all things are possible.” — give a glimpse into the year that followed.
Powell — a health-conscious, fit, nonsmoker — was diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer on Jan. 23.

November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. In 2012, Team Draft marked the occasion by launching our inaugural Survivor at Every Stadium initiative on CNN during a nationally-televised prime time special focusing on lung cancer and our National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer.

Team Draft’s goals are to create a unique experience for participating survivors and to raise awareness on a local, national, and international level by using each game and each survivor’s story to weave a broader narrative about the state of cancer and the hope that now exists for those battling the disease.

Special thanks to the Carolina Panthers, Bon Secours St. Francis Cancer Center and our Team Draft’s supporters for helping make this experience possible.
