SUMMARY:A Survivor at Every College Stadium: UCLA Bruins
DESCRIPTION:View Photo Gallery \nPasadena\, CA. November is lung cancer awareness month! Lung cancer Missy Peterson and her family will represent Team Draft at the Rose Bowl on Saturday night\, and watch the UCLA Bruins take on the University of Arizona Wildcats. Missy’s husband Jock is a UCLA graduate\, so the Peterson’s will be cheering loud for their favorite college team. \nTeam Draft’s goals are to create a unique experience for participating survivors and to raise awareness on a local\, national\, and international level by using each game and each survivor’s story to weave a broader narrative about the state of cancer and the hope that now exists for those battling the disease. \nLeveraging our connections with the NCAA\, its teams and players and our relationships with many of the top cancer centers in the country\, we are arranging to have lung cancer survivors attend games at NCAA stadiums across the country during the last two months of the 2014 season. \nAs part of our National Campaign\, this celebration of survivorship raises lung cancer awareness\, gives hope to those battling the disease\, and shines a light on the important work being done at cancer research and treatment centers around the country. \nSpecial thanks to LCFA\, Bruin coach Deshaun Foster\, the UCLA Football team for making this experience possible. \nDonate Now to Support the National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer @www.teamdraft.org

SUMMARY:A Survivor at Every Rink: San Jose Sharks
DESCRIPTION:View Photo Gallery\n\n  \nSan Jose\, CA. Lung cancer survivors Fawn Lee (Stanford Cancer Institute) and Don Stranathan (Kaiser Santa Rosa) will kickoff Lung Cancer Awareness Month at the SAP Center in Downtown San Jose. As part of our A Survivor At Every Rink\, the survivors will watch the Sharks take on the New York Islanders and will also give out facts about lung cancer during the intermissions. \nFawn Lee: \nOn February 4\, 2011\, Fawn Lee received a call from her doctor asking her to come in right away. Being a mother of three young children and having just went through a move\, Fawn scheduled a time later on that day to go in. The day before\, she had gotten an X-ray and so she assumed that he just wanted to go over the finding. She was worried but didn’t realize what significance the call made in her life. This was a call that would set into motion a new battle that no one ever thinks is waiting in the midst for them\, ready to rear its ugly head if life calls upon it.\nRead more: https://www.teamdraft.org/survivorstories/fawn-lee-is-changing-the-face-of-lung-cancer/ \nDon Stranathan: \nI was diagnosed with Stage 4 Non-Small Cell Lung Cancer in June of 2009. I have had numerous treatments of radiation and chemotherapy for the lung cancer\, and six cycles of Genzar for metastasis to my liver. I am one of the fortunate few because only 16.8 % ever reach the five year mark. I am stable today because of the targeted therapy pill Tarceva that I have been taking for almost five years.\nAll through my journey I have kept a positive attitude\, good nutrition and plenty of exercise. I try to live my life by spiritual principles. I feel they all play an important part in my recovery and the reason I am still above ground. The bad news is that I have cancer\, the good news is that cancer has taught me to live life to the fullest. I never allow cancer to define me. I rarely miss an opportunity to hike\, bike\, or do anything that strengthens my immune system and keeps me out in nature. \nIn October 2011 I met Penny Blume\, the love of my life\, on a lung cancer support community on Inspire. Penny left this earth on 1-21-2014 after battling small cell lung cancer\, for the previous 32 months. Penny and I spent our time together traveling back and forth from New York to California. She passed at my home in Santa Rosa\, CA\, after trying one last clinical trial at Stanford Cancer Center.\nPenny and I turned to each other for emotional support to battle our cancers and fell in love. It was after a couple of months of texting and chatting on social media that we decided to meet. Penny flew to California for her first visit in January of 2012\, and the rest is history. \nRead more:\nhttp://abcnews.go.com/Health/couple-share-lung-cancer-undying-love/story?id=17231220 \nThrough our Survivor at Every Rink initiative\, we are working with all 30 NHL teams to have lung cancer survivors from local cancer centers and their guests attend one of the team’s home games as a part of the NHL’s national initiative Hockey Fights Cancer! \nOur goals are to create a unique experience for participating survivors and to raise awareness on a local and national level by using each game and each survivor’s story to weave a broader narrative about the state of lung cancer and the hope that now exists for those battling the disease. DESCRIPTION:View Photo Gallery \nSanta Clara\, CA. Stanford Cancer Institute lung cancer survivor Molly Golbon and her husband Arash will joined Former 49er Chris Draft at Levi Stadium on Sunday. The Golbons will watch the San Francisco 49ers take on their NFL West rival\, St. Louis Rams. \nMolly Golbon: \nMolly Golbon doesn’t take much for granted these days.\nThe 39-year old married working mom of two knows life can take unexpected turns. For her\, it came with a pain in her throat\, tiredness\, and a cough that wouldn’t go away.\n“I went in for an MRI\, and that’s when they found there was something on the MRI\,” Golbon recalled. That something turned out to be lung cancer. “I think when they told me it was lung cancer\, I thought it can’t be. It can’t be. It’s probably bronchitis or pneumonia\, it’s not that.”\nUnfortunately\, it was.\nUntil her diagnosis\, Golbon\, like many people\, thought only smokers got lung cancer.\nRead more: http://www.nbcbayarea.com/news/health/Menlo-Park-Woman-Helping-to-Change-the-Stigma-of-Lung-Cancer-254237991.html \nNovember is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. SUMMARY:A Survivor at Every Stadium: New York Giants
DESCRIPTION:East Rutherford\, NJ. Lung cancer survivors Abraham Almanza and Kathy O’Brien will join NFL Ambassador Chris Draft in the Commissioner Goodell’s suite for Monday Night Football. The survivors will watch the New York Giants take on the Indianapolis Colts\, in the first November Monday Night game on the season. \nAbraham Almanza: \nIn 1998\, I was diagnosed with stage IV lung cancer at the age of 15. I would later turn 16 in the hospital not knowing if I would live to see my 17th birthday. \nRead more: https://www.teamdraft.org/survivorstories/abraham-and-yolanda-almanza-are-changing-the-face-of-lung-cancer/ \nKathy O’Brien: \nKathy O’Brien of Westfield\, New Jersey\, thought her eyes were playing tricks on her. She was driving her three kids to school two years ago when she noticed that the stop sign was blurry. Her eye doctor sent her to a retina specialist\, who spotted six tumors in her left eye and four in her right. The next day — after a battery of tests including an MRI and a CT scan — Kathy was in an oncologist’s office\, blindsided by news that was beyond shocking: She had stage IV lung cancer. “Never in a million years did I think I’d hear something like that\,” says Kathy\, who had recently run her fifth marathon and had become certified as a Bar Method exercise instructor. “It seemed impossible because I had never smoked.” \nNovember is Lung Cancer Awareness Month. SUMMARY:A Survivor at Every College Stadium: Arizona State Sun Devils
DESCRIPTION:Tempe\, AZ. Sedona\, AZ native lung cancer survivor Andy Bonnett will represent Team Draft at the ASU vs. WSU game today\, as a part of Team Draft A Survivor at Every College Stadium initiative. \nAndy Bonnett: \nPhysicians at the University of Colorado Hospital are finding startling success with medications that are made to match the genes of a particular lung cancer. The new strategy means the drugs work only on certain patients – but they can work really well. Researchers think the cancer-fighting drugs may tamp the disease for a few years\, and then the cancers may mutate and find a way around the medication. But years of healthy living is fantastic for people who’ve been diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer\, which has a five-year survival rate of less than 3 percent. Dr. Ross Camidge of UCH says patient Andy Bonnett is a prime example of what one of this new strategy of “personalized medicine” can do. Two years ago Bonnett was one of those Stage 4 lung cancer patients. He was\, said Camidge\, “a young man who had never smoked\, led a very healthy life\, developed increasing shortness of breath and pain\, and was diagnosed with lung cancer in his mid-30s.” \nWatch more: https://vimeo.com/72344655 \nTeam Draft’s goals are to create a unique experience for participating survivors and to raise awareness on a local\, national\, and international level by using each game and each survivor’s story to weave a broader narrative about the state of cancer and the hope that now exists for those battling the disease. \nSpecial thanks to ASU AD Scottie Graham\, the ASU Football\, the University of Colorado Cancer Center\, Dr. Ross Camidge and our Team Draft supporters for making this experience possible. \nDonate Now to Support the National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer @www.teamdraft.org
