SUMMARY:Survivor at Every Stadium: Carolina Panthers #MondayNightFootball
DESCRIPTION:View Photos \nCharlotte\, NC. US Army Green Beret and lung cancer survivor Richard Stayskal and his family represented Team Draft at Bank of America Stadium on Monday Night. The Stayskals watched the Carolina Panthers take on the New Orleans with Team Draft co-founder\, and former Carolina Panther\, Chris Draft. \n \n\nSgt. 1st Class Richard Stayskal was deployed to Ramadi\, Iraq\, in 2004 when he was shot by a sniper. The round\, which he kept as a souvenir\, pierced his left lung and nearly killed him. \n\n\n The round is “a reminder of how fragile life is\,” he told Charlotte’s Fox 46. “Something could change everything in an instant.” \n\n\n Despite beating the odds of such a grievous wound in combat\, something else did change in an instant for the 37-year-old Green Beret when\, following a June 2017 visit to a civilian doctor to address severe breathing issues the Army told him was a simple case of pneumonia\, he received terrible news. \n\n\n “Did a biopsy and when I woke up my wife was crying\,” Stayskal told Fox 46. “And he [the doctor] was telling her that I had cancer.” \n\n\n The tumor in Stayskal’s lungs had been egregiously misdiagnosed by Army doctors\, the report said\, allowing it to double in size and spread to other vital organs — and into stage four terminal lung cancer. \n\n\n Now\, the father of two daughters\, ages 9 and 11\, said doctors have given him a life expectancy of at least a year. \nRead the full story \nIn 2012\, we launched our inaugural Team Draft Survivor Series initiative on CNN during a nationally-televised prime time special focusing on lung cancer and our National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer. Our Survivor at Every Stadium\, leverages our connections with the NFL\, its teams and players with our relationships with many of the top cancer centers in the country. As a part of our International Campaign\, the games allow us to celebrate our survivors\, raise awareness\, and give hope to those battling the disease\, as well as shine a light on the important work being done at cancer research and treatment centers around the country. \nTeam Draft’s goals are to create a unique experience for participating survivors and to raise awareness on a local\, national\, and international level by using each game and each survivor’s story to weave a broader narrative about the state of cancer and the hope that now exists for those battling the disease. \nTeam Draft’s fifth annual Lung Cancer Survivors Super Bowl Challenge kicked off on November 1\, 2018. This unique fund raising challenge gives lung cancer survivors the opportunity to raise funds for public awareness and cutting-edge research that is giving new hope to those battling this often misunderstood disease. The top three fundraisers\, announced on December 31\, 2018\, will earn trips to Super Bowl 53 in Atlanta\, GA\, the 2019 NFL Pro Bowl in Orlando\, FL and the Taste of the NFL in Atlanta\, GA. The survivors have an opportunity to share their powerful stories with key individuals with influence from across the country. #RepYourCity #RepYourCancerCenter #RepYourLCOrganization  \n**The lung cancer survivors that raise over $5\,000 will be able to designated a beneficiary (Cancer Center or LC Organization) that will receive 80% of their raised funds (-fees) and the remaining 20% will support Team Draft’s mission to change the face of lung cancer. \nSpecial thanks to the Carolina Panthers\, Riley Fields\, the NFL Commissioner\, the NFL and all of our Team Draft supporters for helping make this event possible. \nDonate now to Support the National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer!

SUMMARY:Survivor at Every Stadium: Los Angeles Rams #SundayNightFootball
DESCRIPTION:View Photos \nLos Angeles\, CA. USC lung cancer survivor Sandy Jauregui-Baza and her husband Steven represented Team Draft at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum on Sunday Night. Sandy and Steve joined Rams Alumni on the Throwback Terrace Deck and watched the Los Angeles Rams lose a close game to the visiting Philadelphia Eagles. #changingthefaceoflungcancer \n\n\n\n\n\n\nWhy are so many women who have never lit up developing this disease?\nBy Aimee Swartz\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n In 2012\, Sandy Jauregui-Baza was hiking along the Tamul waterfall in San Luis Potosí\, Mexico\, when she started coughing and having trouble breathing. “I remember thinking I must be coming down with something\,” she recalls. \nJauregui-Baza was an avid exerciser; she ran or hiked daily\, logging more than 100 miles each month. She ate clean\, avoiding almost all processed foods. She figured she was too healthy for anything to be seriously wrong. But after developing flu-like symptoms\, she went to an urgent care clinic in Los Angeles. The doctor thought it might be tuberculosis\, based on the results of her cloudy chest X-ray and her recent honeymoon in Nepal\, where the infectious disease is common. But a few days later\, when the definitive test for TB came back negative\, doctors did a lung biopsy to look for other causes. \nThe final diagnosis: Jauregui-Baza had stage IV lung cancer\, the most advanced form of the disease; it had spread into the bones of her spinal column. “I thought the doctors had to be kidding\,” says Jauregui-Baza\, now 32. “I’ve never even smoked\, and I had just hiked to the base camp of Mount Everest. How could I have lung cancer?” The prognosis was grim: More than 95 percent of stage IV lung cancer patients succumb to the disease within five years of diagnosis. Jauregui-Baza was given just six months to live. \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nRead more: http://www.oprah.com/health_wellness/non-smokers-and-lung-cancer#ixzz5ZcbNtPmf\n\nIn 2012\, we launched our inaugural Team Draft Survivor Series initiative on CNN during a nationally-televised prime time special focusing on lung cancer and our National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer. SUMMARY:Survivor at Every Stadium: New York Jets #SaturdayNightFootball
DESCRIPTION:New York\, NY. New Jersey lung cancer survivor-advocate Bill Schrul represented Team Draft at MetLife Stadium. Bill and his wife tailgated with L7 before watching the New York Jets take on the Houston Texans. #tacklinglungcancer #suitelife \nMOUNTAINSIDE\, NJ — Bill Schrul of Mountainside was a healthy\, athletic man who never smoked a day in his life. Yet on June 13\, 2012\, Schrul was diagnosed with stage 4 lung cancer.\n \nIt was a diagnosis Schrul and his family did not think could happen. \n“I couldn’t be more shocked\,” Schrul said. \nIn reality\, lung cancer is the world’s number one killer. In the U.S.\, more people die of lung cancer than pancreatic\, breast and prostate cancer combined. Although it is the most underfunded cancer\, according to Lung Cancer Research Foundation. \nSince being diagnosed Shrul has taken multiple medications and undergone a clinical trial. He is doing well now. \n“I workout generally five days a week and do rather well. My breathing is not what it used to be.” \nNow it has become Schrul’s mission to spread the word.\n \n“It is so important to me to educate people about lung cancer\,” Schrul said. “My friends were overwhelmed to find out it kills far more women than breast cancer. It is viewed as smokers disease but I have always stayed healthy and fit. I never touched a cigarette in my life. It could happen to you or your wife\, anyone that breathes can get lung cancer. It is a startling thing to think about that.” Read the Full Story by Alexis Tarrazi\n \nIn 2012\, we launched our inaugural Team Draft Survivor Series initiative on CNN during a nationally-televised prime time special focusing on lung cancer and our National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer. DESCRIPTION:View Photos \nCleveland\, OH. Lung cancer survivors Dan Cadigan\, Matt Hiznay\, Kristal Russo and Lisa Moran\, and lung cancer advocate Kristine Cherol will represent Team Draft at First Energy Stadium. The group will tailgate with the Elf Pack before watching the Browns take on the visiting Carolina Panthers. \nExercise enthusiast Lisa Moran chooses not to let a Stage IV lung cancer diagnosis at age 44 get in the way of living life. Today\, she is a lung cancer advocate and encourages others to speak with their doctors about molecular testing. \nWhen I hiked up the Manitou Incline on Pikes Peak\, I felt physically at my best but my breathing was labored. Friends and family suggested it was the change in altitude. My breathing problems progressed to a persistent cough and heaviness in my chest\, but more than one doctor said my lungs sounded clear. When a friend asked if I would climb the incline with her\, I agreed but felt it would be safer for both of us if I had my breathing problems checked before making the trek again. \nResults from an X-ray and CT scan confirmed a mass in my lung. I had a bronchoscopy to take a tumor sample\, and I was diagnosed with Stage IV non-small cell adenocarcinoma of the lung. I was told it was inoperable and incurable. I remember how amazing it was to go and do a halftime show for high school marching band. Just the size of the stadium and being with all my friends watching the game. The Browns are just part of your life when you grow up in NE Ohio. My dad wears Browns gear every Sunday\, it was always on TV at home and my family never misses it. For me it means family time. ~ Kristine Cherol \nI watched the Browns every week on TV with the Pikes Peak Browns Backers. Living in Colorado\, I rarely get to go to Browns games. I’m so excited to be going to the game with Team Draft and getting the chance to see Baker and the team play live. ~ Lisa Moran \nExcited to be taking my 18 year old son Conor. Last game he was at was as a toddler. #CreatingNewMemories ~ Dan Cadigan  \nMy favorite Browns memory was a game in early November 2007 against the Seahawks. It was a late afternoon start\, and was a late afternoon start\, and the first flurries of the winter actually fell in the fourth quarter. I attended with my father\, my brother\, my grandfather\, and my uncle– we had a tradition of going to one game each year together. The game went into overtime. The Dawg defense made a huge stop on fourth down\, and we kicked a field goal for the win. The speakers blasted “Shout” and I turned to see my 82 year-old grandfather dancing with a stranger in elation. It would be the last game he attended at the stadium with us.” ~ Matt Hiznay \n\n \nTeam Draft’s fifth annual Lung Cancer Survivors Super Bowl Challenge kicked off on November 1\, 2018. This unique fund raising challenge gives lung cancer survivors the opportunity to raise funds for public awareness and cutting-edge research that is giving new hope to those battling this often misunderstood disease. SUMMARY:Survivor at Every Stadium: Pittsburgh Steelers #SundayNightFootball
DESCRIPTION:Pittsburgh\, PA. PA lung cancer survivor Dave Miller and his family will represent Team Draft at Heinz Field on Sunday night. The group will watch the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the visiting San Diego Chargers. #tacklinglungcancer #SundayNightFootball #LCSM \nMy Journey. Hmm\, how to start. Well I thought I was a healthy\, strong\, hard working adult. Never called off work\, enjoyed my social life on days off. And ate and drank anything I wanted. Basically I felt invincible. At 45 years of age I set Pennsylvania State Bench press record. And was at gym everyday making my body stronger. Umm was I?\nA friend of mine said I looked pale. I myself was feeling weaker in the gym weekly and really starting to feel fatigued and taking naps. And then the weight lose. A total of over 45 lbs in 2 months. I as a typical person that’s always in denial blamed it on my long hours at work on the Railroad as a Trainmaster. Also poor eating habits and late party nights with the fellas.\nThen came the day went to doctor for bloodwork. Oh my\, I was a total mess. Anemia\, high blood pressure\, liver enzymes and kidney enzymes out the roof. Along with about 5 other things I can’t even remember.\nAfter many more test and many more needles and scans I got the call of possible Cancer. Wow! What do you say\, nawwww. Probably something else. Then came the scans and biopsy’s. Stage 4 Lung Cancer! Numb\, denial\,scared\,worried\,sad! The list goes on over and over in my mind. The words 6 months to live. Wow! This was March of 2015 \, just 3 months before my Daughter Haley was to graduate High School\, was I gonna see her graduating\, should I tell her. Confused and lost in my own mined. \nAfter rounds of chemo and a target therapy drug I was stable and was having shrinkage in areas. And rapidly getting stronger and putting weight back on. This was 2016. Also re broke my own Bench Press record for Pennsylvania. What did all this do? Made me party more and live a crazy lifestyle that wasn’t good for my body. I again\, felt invisible.\nSo now after almost 4years of fighting this disease I have changed my lifestyle . Since 2016 I’ve had 4 more experiences of cancer growth. And each time has knocked me back a little more to reality. I understand Cancer will knock you down no matter how strong or even if you have money. I’ve become a better person because of cancer. I’m a better Husband\, Father\, Friend and overall a better person. Cancer will not take any of those things from me. The Lord is my strength. I still struggle everyday. But I will not let cancer lead me down the wrong path of living. Thanks Cancer\, in a weird way you made me a better person. So in all actuality thank you. These last 4 years have been best years of my life. So guess what cancer \, no matter what\, I whooped your butt! ~ Dave Miller \nIn 2012\, we launched our inaugural Team Draft Survivor Series initiative on CNN during a nationally-televised prime time special focusing on lung cancer and our National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer. He has never smoked. \nSo it came as a shock when he was diagnosed with stage-four lung cancer. \nThe Tri-State has one of the highest lung cancer rates in the U.S. because it’s one of the heaviest smoking areas in the country\, according to Dr. John Morris. But people who have never had a cigarette make up a growing percentage of lung cancer diagnoses.  \nBetween 10 and 15 percent of lung cancer diagnoses are in people who never smoked. Radon gas and pollution are two contributors. \n“I think there’s a sense that most people with lung cancer are smokers\, so they did it to themselves\, which is very unfair because we’re seeing more and more lung cancer in non-smokers\,” Morris said. \nMorris is the physician Tim chose to guide him through his battle with cancer. \n“He offered hope\,” Tim said. “He offered a chance of treatment at the time that was very new.” \nIt was a combination of an immunotherapy drug and chemotherapy. \n“It has made a dramatic difference\,” Morris said. “He was very symptomatic when I first saw him. He’s minimally symptomatic now.” Read more…More non-smokers being diagnosed with lung cancer by WCPO Cincinnati -Kristyn Hartman \nIn 2012\, we launched our inaugural Team Draft Survivor Series initiative on CNN during a nationally-televised prime time special focusing on lung cancer and our National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer. \nSpecial thanks to the Kristyn Hartman\, Univesity of Cincinnati Cancer Center\, Cincinnati Bengals\, Keith Singer\, Catch it in Time\, the NFL and all of our Team Draft supporters for helping make this event possible. \nDonate now to Support the National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer!

SUMMARY:Survivor at Every Stadium: Atlanta Falcons
DESCRIPTION:Atlanta\, GA. Emory Winship Cancer Institute lung cancer survivor Brandi Bryant and Bill Westlake represented Team Draft at Mercedes Benz Stadium on Sunday. Brandi\, Bill and their guests watched the Atlanta Falcons take on the Baltimore Ravens. #RiseUp #tacklinglungcancer #ATL \n\n \nA year ago today\, I had no clue that lung cancer was lurking inside of my body. I knew something was wrong. I’d experienced months of a small but barely nagging cough\, and more recently\, shortness of breath that prompted my visit to the doctor. By the end of January 2018\, I’d get the shocking news that I\, a 39yo mother of young children and a non-smoker had advanced stage lung cancer (later classified as Stage 4.)  I was blessed enough to have a friend immediately connect me with Team Draft and Chris instantly got the wheels in motion for me to meet other survivors. I went from being completely desperate to having hope that I\, like them\, may have a chance to beat the statistics. Meeting survivors and seeing all the work that Chris and others like him are doing every. single. day to fight for funding equity and lung cancer awareness was eye-opening to  say the least. \n\n\nToday I’m doing well and with targeted therapy and prayers\, currently have no evidence of disease in my body! The battle is never-ending though. Lung cancer is a beast that likes to come back\, so we cannot give up and need to keep pushing for more research to keep us alive and save other people from going through this in the future. Hope is key.  ~ Brandi Bryant\n\n\n  \nIn 2012\, we launched our inaugural Team Draft Survivor Series initiative on CNN during a nationally-televised prime time special focusing on lung cancer and our National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer. It was nice to be able to take a break from our usual routine and do something a little different and fun with the kids. SUMMARY:Happy Anniversary Team Draft!
DESCRIPTION:Team Draft Marks Anniversary With Call To Action To Support National Campaign To Change The Face Of Lung Cancer \n(Atlanta\, GA) – Chris Draft faced some tough opponents during his 12 years in the NFL\, but nothing could have prepared him for the news he and then girlfriend\, Keasha\, received when Keasha\, a never-smoker\, was diagnosed with lung cancer. Despite the diagnosis and knowing the long odds they faced\, Chris and Keasha decided to fight back\, and seven years ago today\, on November 27\, 2011\, standing hand-in-hand\, they launched Team Draft at their wedding. Keasha died a month later. \n  \n“On our wedding day\, Keasha and I made two commitments: one to each other and one to the lung cancer community\,” says Draft. “Keasha knew our second commitment couldn’t be accomplished without a team\, so instead of gifts\, she asked our family and friends to join the lung cancer fight by donating to our foundation\,” Draft explains. Those donations became the seed money for Team Draft\, and helped launch its National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer. \n  \n“Keasha’s story is tangible proof that anybody can get lung cancer; it’s not just a ‘smoker’s disease’\,” says Draft. “If you believe that anybody can get lung cancer\, then you have to be committed to everybody\,” Draft explains. “Keasha knew that all too well\, and she knew that our commitment to fight lung cancer had to be about more than just her; it had to be about the entire lung cancer community\,” Draft says\, adding that “for Keasha\, the fight wasn’t about ‘me\,’ it was about ‘we.’” \n  \nSince Chris and Keasha launched Team Draft on their wedding day in 2011\, Team Draft has been on a mission to identify and support individuals\, institutions and organizations who are willing to stand with Team Draft and fight—fight not only for themselves\, but also for their communities. For Team Draft\, it has always been about the “we” and not the “me”—just as Keasha intended. \n  \nTeam Draft’s National Campaign has taken it to hundreds of the top cancer centers around the world in search of institutions willing to talk about the important research they are doing and about how that research is changing the lives of those battling lung cancer. Through its Survivor At Every Stadium initiative\, Team Draft is identifying survivors who\, like Keasha\, are willing to stand up not only for themselves\, but also for the millions of people living with lung cancer. Once Team Draft\, working with likeminded cancer centers and organizations\, identifies these “survivor-advocates\,” Team Draft provides them with the opportunity to share their stories at hundreds NFL\, NBA\, MLS\, NHL\, and college football games\, weaving a broader narrative about the true nature of lung cancer and the hope that now exists for other survivors. \n  \nTeam Draft’s annual Lung Cancer Survivors Super Bowl Challenge brings it all together. This unique fund raising challenge gives lung cancer survivor-advocates the opportunity to compete against one another to raise funds for public awareness and cutting-edge research that is giving new hope to those battling this often misunderstood disease. The survivor-advocate whose team raises the most money will join Team Draft at the Super Bowl in Atlanta\, Georgia. The runner-up will receive a trip to the 2018 Pro Bowl in Orlando. The third place finisher will join Team Draft at the 28th Annual Taste of the NFL—a strolling food and wine festival held in Atlanta the night before the big game where guests will savor dishes prepared by some of the top chefs in the country while rubbing shoulders with legendary players from all 32 NFL Teams. \n  \nIn addition to raising critical public awareness\, the Super Bowl Challenge also raises funds for lung cancer organizations and treatment centers across North America. Participating survivor-advocates who raise more than $5\,000 during the Super Bowl Challenge may commit 80% of the funds they raised to a lung cancer organization or cancer center of their choice. While Team Draft hopes to have survivor-advocate for all 32 NFL cities participate in the challenge\, the ultimate goal is for all NCI designated cancer centers to identify and support a survivor-advocate in the Challenge every year. \n  \nOn this #GivingTuesday\, Team Draft is marking its anniversary with a call to action. Team Draft is asking people to help it fulfill the commitment Chris and Keasha made on their wedding day by joining Team Draft’s Campaign by donating to the Chris Draft Family Foundation at www.chrisdraftfamilyfoundation.org or by supporting a participating survivor-advocate in the Super Bowl Challenge at https://www.crowdrise.com/o/en/campaign/2019superbowlchallenge. \n  \n“It takes at team to tackle cancer\, and we need your help\,” says Draft. Are you willing to stand up for your community? \n  \nAbout Team Draft \n  \nTeam Draft is an initiative of the Chris Draft Family Foundation dedicated to increasing lung cancer awareness and research funding. SUMMARY:Team Draft's 5th Annual Lung Cancer Survivors Super Bowl Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Atlanta\, GA. Team Draft’s fifth annual Lung Cancer Survivors Super Bowl Challenge kicked off on November 1\, 2018. This unique fund raising challenge gives lung cancer survivors the opportunity to raise funds for public awareness and cutting-edge research that is giving new hope to those battling this often misunderstood disease. The top three fundraisers\, Patty Watkins\, Gina Hollenbeck and Jeff Meckstroth were announced on December 31\, 2018. \nPatty & Kent Watkins are heading to Super Bowl 53 in Atlanta\, GA\, and the Taste of the NFL in Atlanta\, GA \n \nGina and Greg Hollenbeck are heading to the Taste of the NFL in Atlanta\, GA \n \nJeff and Rhonda Meckstroth are heading to the 2019 NFL Pro Bowl in Orlando\, FL. \n \nThe survivors will have an opportunity to share their powerful stories with key individuals with influence from across the country. \n**The Challenge is over but the fundraising continues until the day after the Super Bowl\, February 4\, 2019 at 3amEST/12amPST.\n \nThe lung cancer survivors that raise over $5\,000 will be able to designated a beneficiary (Cancer Center or LC Organization) that will receive 80% of their raised funds (-fees) and the remaining 20% will support Team Draft’s mission to change the face of lung cancer. \nFounded by Draft and his late wife Keasha\, who died of lung cancer in 2011 at the age of 38\, Team Draft is dedicated to raising lung cancer awareness and increasing badly needed research funding through its Campaign To Change The Face Of Lung Cancer\, which is committed to shattering the misconception that lung cancer is a “smoker’s disease.” The centerpiece of Team Draft’s Campaign is its annual Lung Cancer Survivors Super Bowl Challenge. \nAs Draft explains\, “the Super Bowl Challenge gives us a unique opportunity to use the overwhelming media coverage surrounding the Super Bowl as a platform to raise critical public awareness about lung cancer on an international level.  With the game as a backdrop\, we can use each survivor’s story to weave a broader narrative about the state of lung cancer and the hope that now exists for those battling the disease.”  And Team Draft’s efforts are paying off. \n“The Super Bowl Challenge achieves amazing things in terms of public awareness and changing perceptions about lung cancer\,” says Dr. Ross Camidge\, the Director of Thoracic Oncology at Colorado University Cancer Center\, the cancer center where two of last year’s Super Bowl Challenge winners were treated. \nIn addition to raising critical public awareness\, the Super Bowl Challenge also raises funds for lung cancer organizations and treatment centers across North America. \nOf this aspect of the Super Bowl Challenge\, Dr. Camidge says\, “you need somebody working on the national level. You need somebody working on the local level. Everybody wins.” \nFor the survivors who participate\, the Super Bowl Challenge is so much more than just a fundraiser. \n“Team Draft has really helped boost our family’s spirits during this challenging time\,” says Dr. Lucy Kalanithi. In 2015\, Lucy and her husband\, Dr. Paul Kalanithi\, won Team Draft’s inaugural Super Bowl Challenge and were able to join Team Draft in Phoenix\, Arizona for Super Bowl 49.  Paul went on to write the bestselling memoir When Breath Becomes Air — a powerful and moving chronicle of his life and lung cancer journey — before passing away at the age of 37. \n2016 Super Bowl Challenge winner\, Kim Ringen says\, “As a lung cancer survivor\, I would highly recommend to anybody to put your hat in the ring because it is so uplifting to be associated with a group of people that are coming together to make a difference.” \nTo learn more about Team Draft’s 2019   Lung Cancer Survivors Super Bowl Challenge\, visit https://www.crowdrise.com/o/en/campaign/2019superbowlchallenge \nSpecial thanks to NFL and all of our Team Draft supporters for helping make this experience possible. \nAbout Team Draft \nTeam Draft\, an initiative of the Chris Draft Family Foundation\, is dedicated to raising lung cancer awareness and increasing research funding by shattering the misconception that lung cancer is a “smoker’s disease.”  Despite the fact that between 20\,000 and 30\,000 people who have never smoked are diagnosed with lung cancer in the United States each year\, the smoking stigma negatively impacts lung cancer research funding\, Team Draft is out to change all that. SUMMARY:Tackling Cancer with Team Draft at the NFL Experience
DESCRIPTION:New York\, NY. Cancer survivors and caregivers from NYC will join Team Draft at the NFL Experience in Times Square. The group will have a chance to get a behind the scenes feel for the NFL. View Photos \nWhat: Tackling Cancer with Team Draft at the NFL Experience\n\nWho: Metro New York City Survivors and Caregivers\n\nWhen: October 31\, 2018 – 11am – 3pm\n\nWhere: NFL Experience in Times Square\, 20 Times Square – entrance between 47th & 48th street on 7th avenue\, New York\, NY 10036\n\n\n\n\n\n\nTACKLING CANCER   \nA Celebration of Survivors and Caregivers \nIn 2012\, Team Draft launched our inaugural Survivor at Every Stadium initiative on CNN during a nationally-televised prime time special focusing on lung cancer and our National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer. Leveraging our connections with the NFL\, its teams and players and our relationships with many of the top cancer centers in the country\, we arranged to have lung cancer survivors attend games at NFL stadiums across the country during the last two months of the 2012-2013 season. By the time the initiative concluded at the Pro Bowl in Hawaii\, more than 30 lung cancer survivors representing 30 cancer centers and nearly every NFL team had participated. Given the overwhelming success of our Survivor at Every Stadium initiative\, we have expanded it beyond the NFL to the NBA\, the NHL and MLS—and to the NFL UK in London! Our Tackling Cancer initiative builds on the success of already established A Survivor at Every Stadium initiative\, and celebrates all cancer survivors and caregivers\, highlighting the similar journeys for those battling the disease. \nWhat Is Our Tackling Cancer Initiative? \nWhile Team Draft’s primary focus has been lung cancer\, we recognize that all cancer survivors and caregivers are all on a similar journey\, fighting a similar battle.  In short\, we are all on the same team. \nOur goals are to create a unique experience for participating survivors and caregivers\, to spark discussion and the sharing of information between those battling different types of cancer\, and to raise awareness on a local and national level about the importance of having a solid cancer care TEAM for all cancers. \n \nWhat is Team Draft? \nTeam Draft is an initiative of the Chris Draft Family Foundation created by nationally recognized health advocate and former 12 year NFL linebacker\, Chris Draft and his late wife\, Keasha during Keasha’s year-long battle with lung cancer. Their hope was that Keasha’s valiant fight to dance\, smile and live would give hope\, comfort and inspiration to the patients\, caregivers and healthcare providers who are battling the disease every day. \nWhile attending Clemson University\, Keasha was a member of the Rally Cat’s dance squad before graduating with a degree in Electrical Engineering. After graduation\, Keasha worked as an engineer while dancing for the NBA’s Charlotte Hornets before working in the pharmaceutical industry. She was an energetic\, vibrant young woman who had never smoked when she was diagnosed with Stage IV Lung Cancer in December 2010. At the time\, her only “symptom” was a slight shortness of breath a few days earlier. Despite the diagnosis and knowing the long odds they faced\, Keasha and Chris decided to fight back. On November 27\, 2011\, standing side-by-side\, they launched Team Draft at their wedding. One month later\, Keasha lost her courageous fight and died at the age of 38. \nTeam Draft is dedicated to raising lung cancer awareness and increasing badly needed research funding by shattering the misconception that lung cancer is a “smoker’s disease.” The fact is anybody can get lung cancer. Yet\, despite the fact that between 20\,000 and 30\,000 people who have never smoked—including Keasha—are diagnosed with lung cancer in the United States each year\, the smoking stigma negatively impacts lung cancer research funding\, which pales in comparison to funding for other major cancers and diseases. Team Draft is out to change all that by using the unique platform available to Chris as a former NFL player and nationally recognized community leader and health advocate to lead a National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer—a campaign that has taken us to more than 130 of the top cancer treatment and research centers in North America. \nAbout the Chris Draft Family Foundation and Team Draft \nThe Chris Draft Family Foundation is a 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation dedicated to strengthening communities by empowering families to live healthy lifestyles.  The Foundation focuses on several primary initiatives with overarching themes that stress the importance of education\, healthy lifestyles\, character development\, personal responsibility\, self-discipline and physical fitness.  To learn more about the Foundation\, please visit www.chrisdraftfamilyfoundation.org. \nThrough its Team Draft initiative\, the Foundation is carrying on Keasha’s fight to tackle cancer by promoting cancer awareness\, research and scholarship.  Team Draft is dedicated to empowering people to live longer and live stronger by changing the face of lung cancer.  To learn more about Team Draft\, please visit www.teamdraft.org.

With her kids in the car\, her body fell apart and she vomited. \n“I had to wash my hands off in a sprinkler\,” Paccione recalls\, wiping away tears of embarrassment. \nBut instead of a silent sober moment at the kitchen table where Paccione and I talk\, gales of laughter from Dylan and Brooklyn wash away all traces of sadness. \nEven Mom’s tears instantly change from grief to glee. The memory of Mom with puke on her clothes and having to use a stranger’s sprinkler is just too funny for Paccione and kids. \n“We laugh about it now\,” Paccione says\, trying to suppress a giggle. “But it was scary then.” Read More… \nIn 2012\, we\, Team Draft\, launched our inaugural Survivor Series initiative on CNN during a nationally-televised prime time special focusing on lung cancer and our National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer. DESCRIPTION:Stanford\, CA. Bay Area lung cancer survivor-advocate Don Stranathan will represent Team Draft at Stanford Stadium. Don will tailgate with our co-founder Chris Draft\, and other Stanford Alumni before watching the Stanford Cardinal take on the Washington State Cougars. View Photos \nThe bad news is that I have cancer. The good news is that cancer has taught me to live life to the fullest. I never allow cancer to define me. I rarely miss an opportunity to hike\, bike\, or do anything that strengthens my immune system and keeps me out in nature. \nIn October 2011 I met Penny Blume\, the love of my life\, on a lung cancer support community on Inspire. Penny left this earth on Jan. 21\, 2014 after battling small cell lung cancer for 32 months. Penny and I spent our time together traveling back and forth from New York to California. She passed at my home in Santa Rosa\, Calif.\, after trying one last clinical trial at Stanford Cancer Center. \nPenny and I turned to each other for emotional support to battle our cancers and fell in love. It was after a couple of months of texting and chatting on social media that we decided to meet. Penny flew to California for her first visit in January 2012\, and the rest is history. \nMy relationship with Penny also marked the beginning of my advocacy work for lung cancer. It started when a friend of ours asked us to post our story on a lung cancer survivors group on Facebook. I posted something\, and then Penny and I decided to repost it on Inspire\, since it was the site that brought us together. In September 2012 our story was shared by ABC News and Good Morning America. In the following weeks\, it was shared and tweeted all over the world… \nMy last promises to Penny were that I would continue to live life to the fullest and advocate for lung cancer research and awareness. One day at a time I try to keep those promises to her. \n– See more at: http://scopeblog.stanford.edu/2014/11/18/my-last-promises-to-her-advocate-for-lung-cancer-awareness-and-live-life-to-the-fullest/#sthash.nz4BlwDO.dpuf \n  \n \nI am a Stage 4 lung cancer survivor and advocate. I am honestly humbled at kindness and compassion I see being shared. The online community which is slowly fueling me with feeling empowered is how I found Team Draft. This was my firsr opportunity to meet other survivors\, to be in company of these amazing women was an honor. Chris Draft reinforces what I partially know and what I know I want to learn. Research matters and spreading the word on LC. Make is personal. Being part of Team Draft and the Cardinals for Thursday night football exceeded expectations and was a great means to start thinking of a platform to share my story. Its all of us. #Research needed ~ Joanne Schlesinger \n \nI feel extremely blessed to have been granted the opportunity to attend a Thursday Night Football game with some of my Lung Cancer Sisters as guests of Christ Draft with #TeamDraft and we were graciously hosted by the Arizona Cardinals! This was a very exciting and truly a once in a lifetime experience! It was so neat to receive Pre-Game Sideline passes and to be so close to the players and watch them as they warmed up before the game! It was an honor to be able to represent the Lung Cancer Community from Arizona and to show the world what Lung Cancer looks like\, a Lung Cancer Survivor looks like me! Being a spectator at a nationally televised football game and being surrounded by everyday people\, was very impactful to me because for a few hours I was able to forget my diagnosis and simply enjoy and live in the present moment and feed off of the positive energy and atmosphere in the stadium! It goes on to show that by simply looking at our group\, no one would have guessed that each of us has been impacted by Lung Cancer. We all look like your average everyday people too! But it also proves that by simply being present and owning your story\, any setting can serve as an opportunity to share your story. Knowledge is power and no one knows my story better than I do! This is particularly valuable because at the end of the day Lung Cancer can affect anyone with lungs and it is crucial to have a conversation regarding this disease with everyone I encounter should the opportunity arise. It was so very humbling to be able to share this wonderful experience with my Lung Cancer Sisters and this is an amazing memory I will treasure forever! ~ Yovana Portillo \n \nIn 2012\, we\, Team Draft\, launched our inaugural Survivor Series initiative on CNN during a nationally-televised prime time special focusing on lung cancer and our National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer. \nSpecial thanks to the Arizona Cardinals\, Luis Zendejas\, the NFL and all of our Team Draft supporters for helping make this event possible. \nDonate now to Support the National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer!
