SUMMARY:Survivor at Every Stadium: New Orleans Saints
DESCRIPTION:New Orleans\, LA. Louisiana lung cancer survivor-advocate Andy Trahan\, and his wife Leslie\, will represent Team Draft at the Mercedes Benz Superdome on Sunday. The Trahan’s will watch the New Orleans Saints take on the Carolina Panthers. \nAndy Trahan  \nAs a lung cancer survivor with a wife and family\, it is so nice to have a foundation like Team Draft. Not only do they raise money for lung cancer awareness and research\, they send survivors/families to NFL games so they can forget about cancer for a moment and celebrate life. Thank you for this opportunity! We will never forget it!!! Go saints! \nIn 2012\, we\, Team Draft\, launched our inaugural Survivor at Every Stadium initiative on CNN during a nationally-televised prime time special focusing on lung cancer and our National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer. \nLeveraging our connections with the NFL\, its teams and players and our relationships with many of the top cancer centers in the country\, As part of our National Campaign\, this celebration of survivorship raises lung cancer awareness\, gives hope to those battling the disease\, and shines a light on the important work being done at cancer research and treatment centers around the country. \nTeam Draft’s goals are to create a unique experience for participating survivors and to raise awareness on a local\, national\, and international level by using each game and each survivor’s story to weave a broader narrative about the state of cancer and the hope that now exists for those battling the disease. \nLeslie Trahan \nThere are no words to adequately say thank you to Chris Draft for hosting us at the Saints game! He is an awesome man who truly fights for lung cancer awareness and research! We had an amazing experience! Feeling crazy special and blessed right now! So grateful! And….a Saint’s VICTORY!!! WHO DAT!!! \nSpecial thanks to the New Orleans Saints\, PrimeSport\, and our Team Draft supporters for helping make this experience possible. \nDonate now to Support the National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer! \nSaints Win! #WhoDat\n\n

SUMMARY:Draft Received the 2016 Upstage Lung Cancer "Fan Award"
DESCRIPTION:Boston\, MA. Each year\, Upstage Lung Cancer has bestowed our “Fan Award” on an individual or organization whose efforts have shown exceptional leadership in the area of lung cancer. It could be for the courage to speak out and raise awareness\, for advocacy\, or for conducting research leading to new methods of early detection and identification of lung cancer. This year\, we are privileged to announce that the 2016 recipient of the Upstage Lung Cancer “Fan Award” is: Chris Draft\, of Team Draft! On November 27\, 2011\, former 12-year veteran NFL star Chris Draft married the love of his life\, professional dancer Keasha Rutledge\, in an intimate and beautiful wedding ceremony surrounded by loved ones. In fact\, Team Draft was launched on Chris and Keasha’s wedding day. Exactly one month later\, on December 27\, at age 38\, she died. Chris sat by her side as she took her last breaths. \nChris and Keasha were inspired and determined to create Team Draft with the goal to change the face of lung cancer. \n“We want people to see that anybody can get lung cancer.” \nDraft shares Upstage Lung Cancer’s views that we must find a way to identify lung cancer earlier. “My wife was this strong\, healthy woman\, who was all of a sudden short of breath. If she was diagnosed at Stage 3\, instead of 4\, it could have increased her chances of survival. We’re going to celebrate her life and the type of person she was and we want others to grab hold of her spirit and make a difference. Keasha didn’t smoke\, she was a dancer\, she was fit\, and she was healthy.” \nChris Draft uses his accomplishments in the world of sports to build a community of awareness and advocacy for lung cancer. This is an inspiration to Upstage Lung Cancer\, and we are honored to present him with ULC’s 2016 Fan Award as we strive to build the same awareness community using the performing arts.

Hopefully the weather will be great. As for lung cancer yes I am very open minded to a change because I feel sufferers are cheated and don’t get a fair chance to fight this nasty disease. Looking at Keasha it breaks my heart because like me she looks like someone who loved and enjoyed life. She was struck down and is now gone too soon\, I am trying to be positive but i am only human and can’t help thinking about dying and leaving my boys I am all they have\, it’s always been a team of 4 and now they are struggling with the thought of losing me.Anyway I don’t need pity because I am determined to fight\, to raise awareness and to live as long as is possible. \nI never one day thought I would have this lung disease but as we know anyone can have it. SUMMARY:2017 Lung Cancer Survivors Super Bowl Challenge
DESCRIPTION:Sign up for our 2017 Super Bowl Challenge \nATLANTA\, GA. November 1\, 2016 /PRNewswire/ — November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month and former NFL linebacker and international health care advocate\, Chris Draft\, is marking the occasion by kicking off Team Draft’s third annual Lung Cancer Survivors Super Bowl Challenge.  This unique fund raising challenge gives lung cancer survivors the opportunity to raise funds for public awareness and cutting-edge research that is giving new hope to those battling this often misunderstood disease. \nThe survivor who raises the most money will join Team Draft at the Super Bowl in Houston\, Texas.   \nThe runner-up will receive a trip to the 2017 Pro Bowl in Orlando.   \nThe third place finisher will join Team Draft at the 26th Annual Taste of the NFL. \nFounded by Draft and his late wife Keasha \, who died of lung cancer in 2011 at the age of 38\, Team Draft is dedicated to raising lung cancer awareness and increasing badly needed research funding through its Campaign To Change The Face Of Lung Cancer\, which is committed to shattering the misconception that lung cancer is a “smoker’s disease.”  The centerpiece of Team Draft’s Campaign is its annual Lung Cancer Survivors Super Bowl Challenge. \nAs Draft explains\, “the Super Bowl Challenge gives us a unique opportunity to use the overwhelming media coverage surrounding the Super Bowl as a platform to raise critical public awareness about lung cancer on an international level.  With the game as a backdrop\, we can use each survivor’s story to weave a broader narrative about the state of lung cancer and the hope that now exists for those battling the disease.”  And Team Draft’s efforts are paying off. \n“The Super Bowl Challenge achieves amazing things in terms of public awareness and changing perceptions about lung cancer\,” says Dr. Ross Camidge\, the Director of Thoracic Oncology at Colorado University Cancer Center\, the cancer center where two of last year’s Super Bowl Challenge winners were treated. \nIn addition to raising critical public awareness\, the Super Bowl Challenge also raises funds for lung cancer organizations and treatment centers across North America.  Last year\, participants who raised more than $1\,000 during the Super Bowl Challenge were able to commit 50% of the funds they raised to a lung cancer organization or cancer center of their choice. \n***Thanks to the overwhelming success of our annual Super Bowl Challenge\, Team Draft is maintaining its commit to 50% if the survivors raise over $1\,000\, but if they raise over $5\,000\, their designated beneficiary will receive 80% with the remaining 20% going to support Team Draft’s mission to change the face of lung cancer.   \nOf this aspect of the Super Bowl Challenge\, Dr. Camidge says\, “you need somebody working on the national level.  You need somebody working on the local level. Everybody wins.” For the survivors who participate\, the Super Bowl Challenge is so much more than just a fundraiser. \n“Team Draft has really helped boost our family’s spirits during this challenging time\,” says Dr. Lucy Kalanithi.  In 2015\, Lucy and her husband\, Dr. Paul Kalanithi\, won Team Draft’s inaugural Super Bowl Challenge and were able to join Team Draft in Phoenix\, Arizona for Super Bowl 49.  Paul went on to write the bestselling memoir When Breath Becomes Air—a powerful and moving chronicle of his life and lung cancer journey—before passing away at the age of 37. \n2016 Super Bowl Challenge winner\, Kim Ringen says\, “As a lung cancer survivor\, I would highly recommend to anybody to put your hat in the ring because it is so uplifting to be associated with a group of people that are coming together to make a difference.” \n***Fundraising to determine the winners of the 2017 Super Bowl Challenge will end January 1\, 2017 at 11:59pmPST. \n***The winners will be announced on January 2\, 2017.  \nTo learn more about Team Draft’s 2017 Lung Cancer Survivors Super Bowl Challenge\, enter the competition or make a donation\, visit https://www.crowdrise.com/2017SuperBowlChallenge. \nAbout Team Draft \nTeam Draft\, an initiative of the Chris Draft Family Foundation\, is dedicated to raising lung cancer awareness and increasing research funding by shattering the misconception that lung cancer is a “smoker’s disease.”  Despite the fact that between 20\,000 and 30\,000 people who have never smoked are diagnosed with lung cancer in the United States each year\, the smoking stigma negatively impacts lung cancer research funding\, Team Draft is out to change all that. DESCRIPTION:View Photos \nTampa\, FL. November is Lung Cancer Awareness Month and on Thursday\, lung cancer survivor Neil Vicino and lung cancer advocate Ros Miller joined former NFL player Chris Draft at Moffitt Cancer Center where they observed a demonstration by Dr. Uwe Rix in the Lung Center of Excellence. They also visited with Dr. Sandy Anderson of Moffitt’s Mathematical Oncology Department and learn more about how mathematical equations are helping personalize cancer treatment and helping keep the disease under control rather than trying to destroy it completely. \nAs a television reporter at FOX 13 in Tampa\, Neil Vicino witnessed history in the making\, but he never imagined his story would be one of the most fascinating. When doctors diagnosed Vicino with inoperable lung cancer in the summer of 2013\, they told him he had about 18 months to live. However\, Vicino was eligible for a clinical trial of the immunotherapy drug Opdivo. After several months\, the cancer shrunk by 90%. Vicino is now on maintenance therapy and recently has his best CT scan to date. \nThat evening\, Vicino\, lung cancer survivor Dawn Owen\, and lung cancer advocate Ros Miller were Team Draft’s guests of honor for the Tampa Bay Buccaneer’s game against the Atlanta Falcons at Raymond James Stadium. #ThursdayNightFootball #Tacklinglungcancer #SurvivorSeries \nDawn Owen \nI am the new face of lung cancer: young female and a never smoker. It’s time to end the stigma and find a cure! \nSpecial thanks to the Moffitt Cancer Center\, Tampa Bay Bucs\, NFL\, Ros Miller\, Jillian’s Dream and our Team Draft supporters for helping make this experience possible. \nDonate now to Support the National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer!

SUMMARY:Team Draft Celebrating 5 Years of Changing the Face of Lung Cancer
DESCRIPTION:Team Draft Celebrating 5 Years of Changing the Face of Lung Cancer  \n\n\n\nTwo Commitments!\n\n\nFive years ago\, Chris and Keasha were married\, and like most couples on their wedding day\, they made a commitment to each other–a commitment to that each would love\, honor and cherish the other. But they also made a broader commitment to all those who\, like Keasha\, were battling lung cancer–a commitment to tackle the disease. You see\, it was on that day\, standing side-by-side\, that Chris and Keasha launched Team Draft. And while Keasha may no longer be physically with us\, her fight and her spirit live on through our National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer. \nhttps://vimeo.com/33307371 \nThanks to the generous support and donations of people like you\, we have been able to accomplish a lot in the last five of years. In the last month alone\, for example\, we worked with the VA leadership on a national initiative to promote potentially life-saving lung cancer screenings to veterans across the country in honor of Veterans Day\, we have continued to feature stories of survivors and doctors we have met along the campaign trail\, and we worked with teams across the NFL\, NCAA\, NHL\, and NBA to arrange to have a lung cancer survivors at home games throughout the year in honor of Lung Cancer Awareness. Over the last five years\, we have gone from a National Campaign to an International Campaign\, that has taken us to more than 130 of the top cancer treatment and research facilities in US\, Canada\, Mexico and the UK. But there is a lot more to be done\, and we need your help. \nKeasha knew that it takes a team to tackle cancer. She also understood the dedication and commitment it would take to change the face of lung cancer. So\, on her wedding day\, she told her guests that she didn’t want presents. Instead\, she asked them to make a donation to Team Draft to support the commitment she and Chris made that day to all of those fighting the disease. Please help us celebrate Team Draft’s three year anniversary by making a donation today. Your donation will ensure that we can continue to honor Keasha’s commitment by raising lung cancer awareness\, increasing badly needed research funding by shattering the misconception that lung cancer is a smokers disease and celebrating all those survivors who are living longer and living stronger every day. \nPlease share our story and the video of Chris and Keasha’s wedding with your friends and family\, but please share the commitment to tackle lung cancer with them as well.\n\n\n\n
