SUMMARY:Survivor at Every College Stadium: Stanford Cardinal
DESCRIPTION:Stanford\, CA. Bay Area lung cancer survivor-advocate Don Stranathan will represent Team Draft at Stanford Stadium. Don will tailgate with our co-founder Chris Draft\, and other Stanford Alumni before watching the Stanford Cardinal take on the Washington State Cougars. View Photos \nThe bad news is that I have cancer. The good news is that cancer has taught me to live life to the fullest. I never allow cancer to define me. I rarely miss an opportunity to hike\, bike\, or do anything that strengthens my immune system and keeps me out in nature. \nIn October 2011 I met Penny Blume\, the love of my life\, on a lung cancer support community on Inspire. Penny left this earth on Jan. 21\, 2014 after battling small cell lung cancer for 32 months. Penny and I spent our time together traveling back and forth from New York to California. She passed at my home in Santa Rosa\, Calif.\, after trying one last clinical trial at Stanford Cancer Center. \nPenny and I turned to each other for emotional support to battle our cancers and fell in love. It was after a couple of months of texting and chatting on social media that we decided to meet. Penny flew to California for her first visit in January 2012\, and the rest is history. \nMy relationship with Penny also marked the beginning of my advocacy work for lung cancer. It started when a friend of ours asked us to post our story on a lung cancer survivors group on Facebook. I posted something\, and then Penny and I decided to repost it on Inspire\, since it was the site that brought us together. In September 2012 our story was shared by ABC News and Good Morning America. In the following weeks\, it was shared and tweeted all over the world… \nMy last promises to Penny were that I would continue to live life to the fullest and advocate for lung cancer research and awareness. One day at a time I try to keep those promises to her. \n– See more at: http://scopeblog.stanford.edu/2014/11/18/my-last-promises-to-her-advocate-for-lung-cancer-awareness-and-live-life-to-the-fullest/#sthash.nz4BlwDO.dpuf \n  \n \nI am a Stage 4 lung cancer survivor and advocate. This Saturday I will be representing the Chris Draft Family Foundation at the Stanford football game. I am involved with many organizations as a patient advocate\, but one of my favorite is putting a face on lung cancer at sporting events for Team Draft. GO STANFORD!! ~ Don Stranathan \nIn 2012\, we\, Team Draft\, launched our inaugural Survivor Series initiative on CNN during a nationally-televised prime time special focusing on lung cancer and our National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer. Our Survivor at Every College Stadium\, leverages our connections with the NCAA\, its teams and players with our relationships with many of the top cancer centers in the country. As a part of our International Campaign\, the games allow us to celebrate our survivors\, raise awareness\, and give hope to those battling the disease\, as well as shine a light on the important work being done at cancer research and treatment centers around the country. \nTeam Draft’s goals are to create a unique experience for participating survivors and to raise awareness on a local\, national\, and international level by using each game and each survivor’s story to weave a broader narrative about the state of cancer and the hope that now exists for those battling the disease. \nSpecial thanks to the Stanford Cardinal\, Matt Doyle\, Kaiser Health Santa Rosa and all of our Team Draft supporters for helping make this event possible. \nDonate now to Support the National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer!  \n  \n

SUMMARY:Survivor at Every Stadium: Los Angeles Rams #CrucialCatch #AllCancers
DESCRIPTION:Los Angeles\, CA. OC lung cancer survivor-adovcate Tabitha Paccione\, and her family\, represented Team Draft the LA Memorial Coliseum on Sunday. The group watched the LA Rams defeat the visiting Green Bay Packers with Team Draft co-founder and Rams Alum Chris Draft. Tabitha also join a large group of survivors (season ticket holders and ACS guests) that were recognized throughout the game as a part of the NFL Crucial Catch – Intercept Cancer initiative. View Photos \nIf you can’t laugh at cancer\, you’re in trouble. \nFortunately\, Tabitha Paccione\, a 36-year-old teacher with stage IV lung cancer\, has the most amazing medicine immediately to her right and immediately to her left. \n \nThat would be her son\, 13-year-old Dylan\, and her daughter\, Brooklyn\, a comedian and nurse rolled into the body of a nine-year-old. \n“I believe in being honest with them\,” Paccione explains as she makes cheese quesadillas for lunch. \nWith tears welling\, Paccione recalls the time before she was diagnosed with lung cancer when she started coughing so hard she had to pull to the side of the road. With her kids in the car\, her body fell apart and she vomited. \n“I had to wash my hands off in a sprinkler\,” Paccione recalls\, wiping away tears of embarrassment. \nBut instead of a silent sober moment at the kitchen table where Paccione and I talk\, gales of laughter from Dylan and Brooklyn wash away all traces of sadness. \nEven Mom’s tears instantly change from grief to glee. The memory of Mom with puke on her clothes and having to use a stranger’s sprinkler is just too funny for Paccione and kids. \n“We laugh about it now\,” Paccione says\, trying to suppress a giggle. “But it was scary then.” Read More… \nIn 2012\, we\, Team Draft\, launched our inaugural Survivor Series initiative on CNN during a nationally-televised prime time special focusing on lung cancer and our National Campaign to Change the Face of Lung Cancer.
